About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our engineering team. You will be responsible for monitoring, upgrading and maintaining the existing infrastructure at Ex Ordo. You will have the opportunity to plan and implement the next iteration of our infrastructure.

Ex Ordo began a growth phase in 2022, we’re nine months into a multi year plan to transform the engineering department. This is a chance to join the team early in this transformation, with the unique opportunity to grow your skill set and your career within the organisation. As the Senior Engineer on the infrastructure team you will lead decisions on the architecture and infrastructure we use as we scale the company and customer base.

Ex Ordo has been in business since 2012, and we have built success with a small, tight-knit team of engineers, designers and product managers. The pandemic forced a major acceleration in technology adoption amongst our customer base, and we pivoted our offering to meet this demand. Since then, as the waves of the pandemic have come and gone, we have been adjusting our business to align with this new world.

Now it’s the time to accelerate that vision. The scholarly industries’ adoption of virtual event technology and experiences is only going to continue over the coming years. We aim to be at the forefront of that transformation by working closely with our customers to build and scale a best in class virtual events product. We started our growth by expanding our product and development resources. Next up, we're looking to build a world class infrastructure team to facilitate this growth and scale.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving the computing infrastructure that enables Ex Ordo’s offering. You will configure, install and maintain necessary hardware and software to provide a suitable environment to run critical production applications. You will maintain our testing, staging and production environments using preventative and predictive processes that will allow you to forecast and avert issues. You will be a key player in incident response with responsibilities in their prevention, mitigation, remediation and post-mortem. You will report to the Engineering Manager.

About You

You have 5+ years experience in a DevOps Engineering, Infrastructure, SRE or a similar role . You are a skilled communicator who can identify and balance engineering and business priorities.

You should have experience managing production infrastructure for a SAAS product in both public and private cloud environments. As the primary point of contact for the systems you manage you should have experience performing health checks and scheduling maintenance to ensure availability. You should be comfortable making strategic decisions using tools for capacity planning and resource forecasting. You should enjoy finding creative solutions to problems, keeping automation and compliance in mind.

You should have a strong sense of teamwork and be comfortable collaborating and coaching others. You will need to represent your team when communicating with leadership, drawing on metrics to make decisions and create long term plans.

Curiosity and the ability to work under your own initiative are important to us, you should enjoy researching new technologies and engineering processes and evangelise innovation within the team.

About Us

As a business, Ex Ordo exists to help scholarly and professional societies engage with the communities they serve by providing the tools and services they need to deliver a delightful and seamless events experience, both in-person and online.

To date, over half a million researchers have used our product to attend in-person and virtual conferences in 58 countries on every topic you can imagine. Our customers include the likes of the Royal Geographical Society, the American Marketing Association, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

As a team, we're a tight-knit, welcoming and multi-cultural bunch who delight in supporting each other to do great work. Pre-pandemic, we had a strong in-person culture based in our office in the heart of Galway City. The pandemic changed the way we work but not who we are. We have repositioned our company, culture and processes to function in a remote context. And today, we are committed to being a remote first company, with the option to work in our offices in Galway if that’s your preference. We still value the energy and connection from in person meetups, so twice a year we bring all staff together to the same location to work together for the week.

Whether we’re in the office in Galway, or working remotely in Cork, Cambridge or Croatia, our values are still the same. We believe in supporting each other to do smart, significant, and sustainable work.
